Audience: C3Pay cardholders and salary-card users in the UAE
Editorial review: Checked against current information published by Edenred UAE and the Central Bank of the UAE on July 1, 2026.
Editorial note: C3Pay features, fees, transaction limits, eligibility rules and Universal Account rollout dates may change. Always confirm the options shown in your C3Pay app or contact Edenred before arranging a transfer.
For many UAE workers, a C3Pay card is the main way they receive and manage their salary. This makes one question especially important: Can you deposit money in your C3 card when the funds are coming from someone other than your employer?
You generally cannot deposit physical cash into a traditional C3Pay card through an ATM or ordinary bank branch. Your employer can credit your salary, and eligible C3Pay users can transfer money to one another through the app.
The answer may change once your account is upgraded to Edenred’s Universal Account model. An activated Universal Account is designed to include a dedicated AED IBAN, allowing eligible users to receive electronic transfers from banks, family members and other permitted senders.
Because the upgrade is being introduced in stages, you must check whether the IBAN is active on your individual account before using it.
Quick Answer: Can You Deposit Money in Your C3 Card?
You cannot normally deposit banknotes into a traditional C3Pay card through an ATM. Edenred’s current FAQ states that cash deposits are not yet enabled and that only the company has authorization to credit the traditional account.
Money may still reach your C3Pay balance through:
- Your employer’s salary payment
- An eligible C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfer
- A salary advance when you meet the conditions
- An electronic bank transfer after your Universal Account and AED IBAN have been activated
The key distinction is between a cash deposit and an electronic transfer. An IBAN may allow electronic transfers, but it does not automatically confirm that you can deposit physical cash at an ATM or branch.
Available C3pay Funding Methods
| What you want to do | Current position |
| Deposit banknotes through an ATM | Not currently enabled for the traditional C3Pay card |
| Deposit cash at a bank branch | Not listed by Edenred as a standard funding option |
| Receive your salary | Yes, through your employer’s payroll process |
| Receive money from another C3Pay user | Yes, subject to eligibility, fees and limits |
| Receive a UAE bank transfer | Available only after an eligible AED IBAN is activated |
| Receive an international transfer | Depends on the activated account and supported service |
| Use salary advance | May be available to eligible cardholders |
What Is a C3Pay Card?

C3Pay is an Edenred UAE payroll card used by employers to distribute salaries to workers. It is particularly useful for employees who do not have a conventional UAE bank account.
After your employer credits your salary, you can generally use the card to:
- Pay at participating stores
- Make eligible online payments
- Withdraw money from an ATM
- Check your available balance
- Review your transactions in the C3Pay app
- Recharge supported mobile numbers
- Use supported transfer and remittance services
A traditional C3Pay payroll card should not be treated as identical to an ordinary current account. Its main purpose has historically been salary distribution, and it has not automatically provided every cardholder with a personal IBAN for receiving domestic bank transfers.
Edenred’s Universal Account upgrade is intended to expand those capabilities for eligible users.
Can You Deposit Cash Into a C3Pay Card at an ATM?
No. Edenred’s current FAQ says that deposits are not yet enabled and that only the company has authorisation to credit the traditional C3Pay account.
An ATM that lets you withdraw money using your C3Pay card will not necessarily let you deposit money. Cash withdrawal and cash deposit facilities are separate functions.
With a traditional C3Pay card, you may be able to:
- Withdraw money already available in your balance
- Check your balance
- Receive your salary
- Pay for goods and services
- Use supported app-based transfer services
However, you should not insert banknotes into an ATM expecting them to be credited to your C3Pay balance.
Can You Deposit Cash at a Bank Branch?
Edenred does not currently list ordinary bank-branch cash deposits as a funding method for traditional C3Pay cards.
Do not take cash to a bank or exchange-house counter expecting it to be credited unless Edenred has specifically confirmed that the service is available for your account.
Even when your Universal Account has an IBAN, this does not automatically mean that every bank branch or ATM will accept a cash deposit. An IBAN is primarily an account identifier used for electronic payments and transfers.
How Can Money Be Added to Your C3Pay Balance?

There are four main ways funds may become available on your C3Pay account. Availability depends on your card status, employer, identity verification and the services currently enabled in your app.
1. Your Employer Pays Your Salary
The standard way to receive money on a C3Pay card is through your employer’s salary payment.
The UAE Wages Protection System, commonly known as UAEWPS, provides an electronic framework for employers to pay employee wages through approved financial institutions and payment agents. The Central Bank of the UAE describes UAEWPS as a mechanism intended to support the safe, secure and timely payment of wages.
Your employer normally submits the required payroll information and transfers the salary funds through its authorised payroll process. Once processing is completed, the money should appear in your available C3Pay balance.
What to check when your salary is missing?
When an expected salary has not arrived:
- Check the C3Pay app for your balance and transaction history.
- Confirm your employer’s normal payroll date.
- Ask whether other employees have received their salary.
- Contact your employer’s payroll or human resources department.
- Ask whether the salary file and funds were successfully submitted.
- Contact Edenred when your employer confirms that processing was completed.
Avoid relying only on an SMS alert. Check the actual available balance and transaction record in the app.
2. Another C3Pay User Transfers Money to You
C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfers allow eligible cardholders to send money to another C3Pay account without depositing physical cash.
As of July 1, 2026, Edenred’s published FAQ lists:
| Transfer condition | Published detail |
| Transfer fee | AED 1 per transfer |
| Minimum transfer | AED 1 |
| Maximum total transfer amount | AED 1,000 per month |
| Number of monthly transfers | No stated numerical limit |
| Maximum saved beneficiaries | 20 |
| Processing description | Instant |
| Emirates ID requirement | Sending may be blocked if the ID is expired or expiring soon |
These details may be revised. The sender should check the amount, fee, beneficiary and limits displayed in the app before confirming the transfer.
A typical transfer may involve the sender:
- Opening the C3Pay app.
- Selecting the C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfer service.
- Adding or choosing the beneficiary.
- Verifying the recipient’s details.
- Entering the transfer amount.
- Reviewing the fee and total deduction.
- Confirming the transaction securely.
A genuine sender does not need your card PIN, CVV, app password or one-time password to transfer money to you.
3. Someone Transfers Money to Your Active C3Pay IBAN
This is the most significant change associated with Edenred’s Universal Account model.
Edenred says eligible upgraded accounts will include a dedicated AED IBAN and the ability to receive funds from sources other than the employer, including banks and family members. The model is also intended to support domestic and international transfers.
However, an announced upgrade does not prove that your individual account is already able to receive bank transfers.
Before giving someone transfer instructions, confirm that:
- Your C3Pay app displays a dedicated AED IBAN
- The IBAN is shown as active
- The account holder’s name is correct
- The required Emirates ID or identity verification is complete
- Incoming bank transfers are enabled
- The sender is using the correct currency and transfer method
- You understand any applicable limits, fees and processing periods
Never use the 16-digit number printed on your payment card in place of an IBAN. The card number identifies your payment card, while the IBAN identifies the account used for bank transfers.
What if the transfer does not arrive?
Do not immediately ask the sender to send the money again. Duplicate transfers may be difficult to reverse.
Instead:
- Confirm that the sender used the correct IBAN and account name.
- Ask for the bank’s transfer reference.
- Check whether the payment is pending, completed or rejected.
- Review your C3Pay balance and transaction history.
- Allow for the processing period stated by the sending bank.
- Contact Edenred with the transfer reference when necessary.
The sending bank may also need to investigate or trace the transaction.
4. You Use C3Pay Salary Advance
A salary advance may increase the money currently available on your card, but it is not a personal deposit.
Edenred states that eligible cardholders may receive up to half of the lowest salary credited during the previous three months.
Its published eligibility criteria include:
- Three salaries received during the previous three months
- An average salary between AED 750 and AED 4,999
- Employment with a company approved for the service
- An Emirates ID valid for at least two more months
Edenred says the advance is credited instantly and that the amount and applicable fee are recovered when the cardholder receives the next salary.
You should treat this as an early-access or credit-related financial service, not free money.
Before accepting an advance, review:
- The amount you will receive
- The service fee
- The total amount that will be deducted
- The repayment date
- The effect on your next available salary
- What happens when your next salary is delayed or insufficient
Do not accept a salary advance solely because it is available. Consider whether the reduced balance from your next salary will still cover essential expenses.
What Is the C3Pay Universal Account?
Edenred describes the Universal Account as a basic AED-denominated current account intended to give eligible lower-income workers broader access to financial services.
According to Edenred’s current FAQ, eligibility is intended for legal UAE residents who:
- Earn AED 5,000 or less per month
- Do not already have another active current or savings account in the UAE
- Meet the required identity and regulatory checks
The intended account features include:
- A dedicated AED IBAN
- Salary payments
- Funds from other permitted sources
- Domestic and international transfers
- Bill payments
- In-store and online card payments
- Digital access through the C3Pay app
- No minimum-balance requirement
- A debit card
- No cheque book
Eligibility does not guarantee immediate activation. Account opening and continued access may remain subject to identification, compliance, residency and product requirements.
Has Every C3Pay Card Been Upgraded?

No one should assume that every C3Pay card already has an active Universal Account.
Edenred’s published information contains two different rollout descriptions:
- Its FAQ says Universal Accounts are “coming soon” and that implementation details and timelines are being finalized.
- It’s April 2026, the Universal Account article says Edenred is already upgrading C3Pay cards.
Taken together, these statements indicate a staged rollout. Work may have started centrally, while activation remains incomplete or account-specific for individual cardholders.
Your own app and direct communication from Edenred are the most reliable indicators of whether your account has been upgraded.
Traditional C3Pay Card vs. Universal Account
| Feature | Traditional C3Pay payroll card | Activated Universal Account |
| Main purpose | Salary distribution | Salary and broader account access |
| Employer salary credit | Available | Available |
| Dedicated AED IBAN | Generally unavailable | Included when activated |
| Money from another bank | Not normally supported | Designed to be supported |
| C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfers | Available to eligible users | Subject to the services offered |
| ATM cash deposits | Not enabled | Do not assume availability without confirmation |
| International remittances | Supported for certain destinations | Intended to continue |
| Domestic account transfers | Limited under the traditional model | Intended to be supported |
| Minimum balance | No minimum requirement | No minimum requirement |
| Cheque book | Not provided | Not provided |
| Digital access | C3Pay app | C3Pay app |
Edenred’s Universal Account article refers to basic ATM withdrawals and deposits within applicable limits as part of the wider account standards. However, Edenred’s current C3Pay FAQ still says deposits are not enabled.
Until the app or Edenred support specifically confirms otherwise for your account, treat ATM cash deposits as unavailable.
How to Check Whether Your Account Can Receive Bank Transfers?

Check Your C3pay App
Sign in and look for:
- Account details
- A dedicated AED IBAN
- Universal Account information
- Incoming-transfer instructions
- Domestic transfer services
- Account-verification requests
- Updated terms and conditions
Having a physical C3Pay card does not prove that an IBAN has been activated.
Review Official Communications
Check:
- In-app messages
- SMS notifications
- Emails from Edenred
- Information provided by your employer
- Requests to update your Emirates ID or personal information
Do not follow links from unexpected messages without verifying that they lead to an official Edenred channel.
Ask Your Employer
Your payroll or human resources department may know whether employees at your company are included in the rollout.
However, your employer should not ask for your PIN, CVV, app password or one-time password.
Contact Edenred
Edenred currently publishes the following contact information:
- C3Pay cardholders: 6005 67772
- Other inquiries: +971 4 521 4000

- Whether your Universal Account is active
- Whether the IBAN shown in your app can receive transfers
- Permitted sources of incoming funds
- Transfer limits and fees
- Required identity verification
- Expected processing times
- Whether cash deposits are available
- What to do when a transfer is delayed

Common Misinformation About C3Pay Deposits

- “You can deposit cash at any ATM” This is incorrect for a traditional C3Pay card. Edenred says ATM deposits are not yet enabled.
- “Every C3Pay card now has an IBAN”: The Universal Account upgrade has been announced and is reportedly underway, but individual availability remains account-specific. Check your app.
- “A salary advance is the same as adding your own money”: It is not. An advance is recovered from a future salary and includes an applicable fee.
- “You can receive a bank transfer using the card number”: A normal account transfer generally requires the correct IBAN and account-holder details. The card number is not a replacement for an IBAN.
- “An agent can activate your IBAN for a fee”: Do not pay an unofficial person who claims to unlock an IBAN, activate deposits, reverse a blocked transaction or update your Emirates ID. Only use the official app, website and Edenred support channels.
- “You must share an OTP to receive money”: You do not need to disclose a one-time password merely to receive a legitimate transfer. An OTP is usually used to authorize an action, verify access or approve a transaction. Never share it with a caller or message sender.
Example: Receiving AED 400 Before and After the Upgrade
Suppose a family member wants to send you AED 400.
Before your Universal Account is active
Your app does not show an IBAN. Your family member cannot normally send an ordinary UAE bank transfer directly to the traditional payroll card.
Possible alternatives may include:
- A C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfer when the sender is eligible
- Waiting for your employer’s salary payment
- Using salary advance when you qualify and accept the cost
- Receiving the money through another authorized bank or remittance service
You still cannot deposit the AED 400 as banknotes through a normal ATM deposit.
After your Universal Account is active
Your app displays a dedicated AED IBAN and confirms that incoming transfers are available.
Your family member may then be able to send an electronic transfer using your correct account name and IBAN. The sender should check any bank fee and expected processing period before proceeding.
The important change is the activation of the IBAN-enabled account—not the appearance of the physical card.
What Should You Do When You Need to Add Money?

Use this practical checklist:
- Identify the type of money you have: Physical cash and electronic funds require different methods.
- Open the C3Pay app: Check your balance, transactions and account details.
- Look for an active AED IBAN. Do not assume that every card has one.
- Select an authorised funding method. : Use employer salary credit, an eligible C3Pay transfer or an activated IBAN transfer.
- Review charges and limits: Confirm the terms displayed before approving a transaction.
- Verify all transfer details: Incorrect names or account numbers can cause delays or rejection.
- Protect your security credentials: Never share your PIN, CVV, password or OTP.
- Confirm receipt before spending: A sender’s confirmation does not prove that the funds are already available.
- Avoid duplicate transfers: Investigate delayed payments before sending them again.
- Use official support: Do not rely on unofficial agents or social-media accounts.
Conclusion
So, can you deposit money in your C3 card?
You cannot normally make a physical ATM cash deposit into a traditional C3Pay card. You can receive your employer’s salary and, when eligible, money from another C3Pay user.
After your Universal Account and dedicated AED IBAN are activated, you may also be able to receive electronic transfers from UAE banks, family members and other permitted senders.
Always check your individual account status, confirm fees and limits, and use official Edenred channels before transferring money or sharing account information.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can someone send money to my C3Pay card from another UAE bank?

Can I deposit cash into my C3Pay card through an ATM?
No. Edenred’s current FAQ states that deposits are not yet enabled for the traditional C3Pay account.
Can I deposit cash at a RAKBANK ATM?
Do not assume that a RAKBANK ATM accepts C3Pay deposits simply because the card can be used there for withdrawals. Edenred does not currently confirm ordinary ATM cash deposits as an enabled C3Pay service.
How do I find my C3Pay IBAN?
Check the account-details section of the C3Pay app and review official upgrade notifications. When no IBAN is displayed, contact Edenred to confirm whether your Universal Account has been activated.
Can another C3Pay user transfer money to me?
Yes, eligible users can access C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfers. Edenred currently publishes an AED 1 fee, an AED 1 minimum and an AED 1,000 monthly transfer limit. Check the app for the latest terms.
How quickly does a C3Pay-to-C3Pay transfer arrive?
Edenred describes the service as instant. Incorrect beneficiary details, identity-document problems, security checks or account restrictions may still affect a particular payment.
Is a salary advance the same as depositing money?
No. Salary advance gives an eligible cardholder early access to funds that are recovered from Edenred says the Universal Account will not require a minimum balance.
